Wellness Canned Cat Food Recalled

On February 28th, Wellpet (makers of Wellness® natural pet food, recalled a significant portion of canned cat food due to a deficiency in Vitamine B1, also known as thaiamine. Wellness canned cat food is sold at many national pet store chains.Cats feed only the recalled food for several weeks are at risk of developing a thiamine deficiency, according to the Wellpet website.The recall includes:· Wellness Canned Cat Food
· all sizes and flavors,
· with best by dates from 14APR13 through 30SEP13
· Wellness Canned Cat Chicken & Herring,
· all sizes,
· with best by date of 10NOV13 and 17NOV13.Vitamin B1 (thaiamine) is essential to proper nutrition for cats. The FDA reports that signs of deficiency may include decreased appetite, salvation, vomiting, and weight loss, and advanced cases may include neurologic signs such as ventriflexion (bending toward the floor) of the neck, wobbly walking, circling, falling, and seizures. If your cat is experiencing symptoms and you have purchased and used the affected food, take all due precaution and see a veterinarian immediately. If it's treated right away, this condition is usually reversible.
Wellpet recommends that you stop feeding your cats the recalled product immediately. Owners should contact the place they purchased the food from for a refund; or call Wellpet at 1-877-227-9587 to arrange for return of the product and reimbursement
