The other day someone asked me, "What is an ear mite?"
Ear mites are tiny crab-like parasites that live in the ear canals and heads of cats, and sometimes in their bodies.
There can be dozens of these tiny insects crawling around in a cat's ears. If you can see them -
you can only image how itchy they must be.
And to speak of itching - that is the most common sign of ear mites.
If you see your cat shaking his head and scratching his ears excessively, or if there is an abnormal odor
emanating from your cat's ears, he may be suffering from ear mites.
Ear mites are easily treated.
They are spread very easily from pet to pet - from cats to dogs, cats to cats, and vise versa.
If your cat is scratching, please see your vet. Scratching and ear discharge can be a sign of infections and other problems but it can also be ear mites
