Have you notice your Pet has the "Winter Blues" - here are a few ideas to help your pet get over the Blues this winter season.
Winter can be a lot of fun. But let's face it: sometimes it's hard to get past the fact that it's cold, dark, and dreary. Outside it's cold and windy so you don't want to venture out, but staying home makes us antsy. It's common to feel a bit down when the “winter blues” take hold and guess what? Your pet can get them too.
Even if your pet lives strictly indoors, the winter can get his mood down. Pets are typically more active during the summer when it's sunny. Winter usually goes hand-in-hand with a lack of activity and increase in sleep which in turn can lead to unhealthy weight gain in your pet. You may notice that your pet is a bit more cranky than usual, too.
However, there are ways to boost your pet's mood during the dreary winter months. Take a look to see what I mean…
Turn up the lights: Part of the reason we feel sleepy and irritable during the winter is shortened periods of daylight. The solution can be as simple as turning on a lamp and brightening the place up! Open curtains during the day to let in as much natural sunlight as possible. Click on an extra lamp or two when it starts getting dark outside. Lamps which simulate natural sunlight might also be a wise investment.
Play more: This one may seem counter-intuitive; if your pet is less active it might seem silly to get them to play more. But once you get started, you and your pet can have a great time and lift your spirits. It will also encourage your pet to be more active and keep the winter weight off.
